Leatherback Reef is just a few surface kicks beyond the sandbar but its treasures are equal to any of the best in Florida. Enjoy a rich abundance of sponge, gorgonian corals, stony corals, ledges, and benthic arroyos that are filled with reef fish small and large. We have seen everything from sergeant majors to hogfish, nurse sharks, lobster, rays, and pretty much everything in between. This is a precious little reef that one can enjoy by snorkel or scuba.

We will meet at the north end of Parking Lot #3 in Mizell-Johnson State Park. Park entrance is very reasonable at only $4 per single occupant car or $6 for a carload of divers. That fee covers parking and use of all amenities, which include restrooms, showers, and the incredible Whiskey Creek Hideout.

This dive is well within the abilities of divers certified as open water or higher. If you have never dived off the beach, this is a good dive to start with. If you lack a buddy, our group always has willing divers to fill that need.
