Finally, the sun is rising at an time which allows us to get in a quick, incredible dive before heading to work. Can there possibly be a better way to welcome Friday and get a taste of the weekend?
We'll meet in the parking lot as we gear up. If we plan to get in the water as close to 7am as possible, we can be back on the beach in 60 minutes and headed to work by 8:30!
The Rockpile off Perry St. is a dramatic series of boulders installed just beyond the sandbars offshore. Rising 10' above the sea floor in dramatic relief for 300 yards from north to south, these boulders now form an awesome habitat for species ranging from sharks and rays to lobsters and hogfish. Tarpon regularly orbit between the rocks and the surface; dolphin cruise the area, occasionally darting toward the rocks to feed on clouds of baitfish clustered there.
Maximum depth for this dive is 20-25' and bottom time is normally 45-60 minutes. This is a good dive for new divers and those seeking to increase their skills and experience.
Plenty of parking is available with MasterMeters taking cash and credit at $3 per hour. No restrooms are nearby, although freshwater showers can rinse you thoroughly before you get back to your car.
